World of Bluegrass

This session is for local, regional, and statewide bluegrass association folks and others interested in association issues. The format is unique: There will be 7 different stations with one or more experts at each one. Stop by the stations of your choice in small groups and discuss your concerns and issues informally with the experts, or just listen and learn. The stations will be:

 

1.  Finding and recruiting sponsors:  Denise Jarvinen (BBU) and Leah Ross (Bristol Rhythm and Roots) Note: Leah not yet committed.

2.  Starting and running a festival: Mike, Sr. and Yvonne Tatar, San Diego Bluegrass Society Board members and start up leaders for the successful Summergrass Festival.

3.  Recruiting and retaining volunteers: Dwight Worden, attorney, SDBS Board member, and prior IBMA Board member.

4.  Navigating ASCAP, BMI, SESAC—When do Associations have to pay? Betty Wheeler, attorney with expertise in the field.

5.  The business of associations: taxes, paying bands, raffles, filings, etc. Alan Tompkins, attorney, association member, and event producer—Alan has background and expertise in it all!

6.  Insurance and risk management for associations: Elizabeth and Phil Wightman, non-profit insurance experts, owners of Steelbridge Insurance Services.

7. IBMA resources for Association: Joe Lurgio, IBMA staff.
