Thomas Goldsmith

Thomas Goldsmith is a journalist, musician and songwriter who has worked in the music scenes of Tennessee, Texas and the Carolinas for more than 40 years. He wrote the bluegrass favorite "Old Devil's Dream;" appeared on recordings by Hazel Dickens, Alice Gerrard, the Whitstein Brothers and many others; produced records for David Olney, Tracy Nelson, the Nashville Jug Band and others; and for the University of Illinois Press edited "The Bluegrass Reader," a 2004 IBMA award winner. His writing has appeared in numerous magazines as well as in publications by the Country Music Foundation, Vanderbilt University, Oxford University and University of North Carolina presses. He is the Wake County editor of the News & Observer, Raleigh's morning daily.
